TRIBUTE TO THE 'FIRST MASTERS' OF CRETAN MUSIC

As anyone who has visited Crete will tell you it is an island of defiant history, proud music and heartfelt dancing. Following from last year's sell-out concert and as part of the 20th Greek Festival of Sydney the Cretan Folkloric Company presents a "Tribute to the Masters of Cretan Music".

The Tribute to the First Masters of Cretan Music examines Cretan music from ancient classical times progressing through the Byzantine influence, Venetian dominance and Turkish occupation and concludes with the first generation of sound-recorded Cretan musicians.

This historical presentation consists of over two hundred melodies of the First Masters of Cretan Music and this tribute by The Cretan Folkloric Company, gives an authentic dimension to preservation and succession of Cretan folkloric music.
