EL GRECO: A GREEK ARTIST IN SPAIN
English-language lecture by Professor Nicos Hatzinikolaou
Internationally renowned and published art historian, Nicos Hatzinikolaou
discusses the painter El Greco, aka Dominikos Theotokopoulos, and the artist's
work and life. El Greco's intense spiritual and creative journey took him
from his native Crete, where he first learned his art, to the Venice of
Titian and Tintoretto and finally to Spain where he created his most famous
paintings.
Professor of Art History at the University of Crete, Professor Hadjinicolaou
will refer to recent discoveries, which throw new light on El Greco's
career and personality. The lecture will also take a forward glance at
El Greco's influence on Picasso and other modern painters. The lecture
will be illustrated by a slide presentation.
