Mick Tsikas presents an exhibition of news photography and photojournalism from his noted career as an AAP photo journalist.

As the photos from Abu Ghraib prison showed, the photographic image is one of the most powerful weapons in the world - which is why authorities often try to control what we see.

All of the photos in Micks exhibition are genuine events featuring real people… The results may be funny, horrifi c, ironic, shocking, terrifying, sad or moving… a bit like life!

Mick, Renee Nowytarger and Nick Moir will display their best work and talk about the fi ner points of photojournalism including the difference between what they capture verses what the viewer sees in the end.

Mick recently spent three weeks in Banda Aceh and amongst his extensive Australian coverage has spent time on Christmas Island, Bali and Gaza.

Renee Nowytarger works for the Australian and has covered the Asylum Seekers and trial of Bali Bomber Amrozi Trial. Renee was the longest serving Australian photographer in Banda Aceh.

Nick Moir works for the Sydney Morning Herald and in 2002 he won the Australian Press Photographer of the Year. In 2003 he was awarded 3rd place in Nature and the Environment Stories in the World Press Photo Competition. He is currently developing a large body of work on environmental events and was also in Banda Aceh.
