The Revolution of 1821 and Georgios Karaiskakis

Presented by Vasilis Kolovos

Presented by famed Greek Artistic Director and President of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Visual and Audio Entertainment, writer, actor, and scholar, Vasilis Kolovos, this unique lecture refers to the Greek Revolution of 1821 (against the Ottoman Empire), the events that marked it and its character and the visions that inflamed its fighters. Georgios Karaiskakis, "the nun's son ", was one of its basic protagonists.

A genius of strategy, he possessed a strong class political instinct, was unyielding, honest and ingenious. He died as he was born, stripped of all possessions.

Had Karaiskakis not been assassinated by a fellow Greek while still young, had his strategic assessments been trusted, the battle of Faliro, which determined the outcome of the national struggle, would have a different result and the development of the revolution would have had taken different directions, in favour of the people, against the will of the foreign "protector" powers and their local lackeys.
