Palace Cinema Como, Cnr Toorak Rd & Chapel St
The Antipodes Greek Film Festival 2006 will screen in Melbourne from Wednesday 20th September to Sunday 8th October at Palace Cinema Como in South Yarra (Cnr Chapel St.and Toorak Rd). This year’s highlight will undoubtedly be Opening Night (Wed 20 Sep), which will screen the box office smash hit seen by over 1.3 million in Greece alone and critically acclaimed Siren’s in the Aegean followed by the infamous after party. Limited tickets are still available through Palace Cinema Como on 03 9827 7433 or by logging onto www.palacecinemas.com.au
The cult classic Siren’s in the Aegean is the sequel to the 1984 comedy Loafing and Camouflage (which will also screen at this year’s Festival) and centers around a group of Greek soldiers assigned to guard a small island, who encounter a mysterious Turkish yacht with three beautiful women.
Presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne, Victoria in conjunction with Palace Cinemas, this year’s line-up again boasts an unmissable selection of contemporary and classic Greek cinema, which showcases the sensitive, yet flamboyant nature of one of the world’s most passionate cultures.
Other key attractions not to be missed include a special tribute to Michael Cacoyiannis, the director credited with bringing the world’s attention to Greek media, by screening a trilogy of his classic Greek tragedies- Electra, The Trojan Women and Iphigenia. Also, for the first time four family films will also be screened. These include The Canary Yellow Bicycle, Fading Light, The Flea, The Little Dolphins. (All children under the age of 15 MUST be accompanied by an adult)
