Facilities Available At The Greek Orthodox Hostel For The Aged
The Greek Orthodox Community Hostel for the Aged is a group residence which provides supported living for older Greek people who need help with day to day living activities.
The Greek Orthodox Community Hostel for the Aged offers 26 fully self-contained units and has been designed to let residents share a social life, as desired, and to enhance their right to independence and privacy. The facilities provided to create this setting includes the following:-
The total project is wheelchair accessible
26 individual units
1 Staff unit
Central to the project are the shared household facilities, and includes:-
A large dining room
3 separate lounge rooms with Television
Separate laundry and drying lines
Public toilet facilities for use by visitors
A well equipped kitchen and pantry
Car spaces (Resident, visitor and staff)
Extensive outdoor areas, for the enjoyment of residents and their visitors
'The Greek Community Hostel for the Aged' provides a warm and caring atmosphere and allows for socialisation between residents, their families and friends, due to the common culture bond
Each individual unit contains:-
An ensuite bathroom, including grab rails and adjustable shower rose which may be wall mounted or hand held. Also included is a built-in shower chair.
A built-in wardrobe
Light fittings
Central heating
Ceiling fans in each bedroom
Emergency call system
Carpet
Blinds
Television antenna point, power points and telephone point (for connection at resident's expense).
Pre- painted walls and ceilings ( in muted tones to enable each resident to decorate as desired).
Bar fridge
The following services are provided-
A) Three nutritious meals daily, including:-
Breakfast Comprising a selection of fresh fruit or fruit juice, cereals, toast or cooked breakfast, tea or coffee.
Lunch Three course meal is provided in the dining room.
Dinner Light meal is provided in the dining room.
NOTE Consideration will be given to providing special diets if required, ie diabetic
Residents are encouraged to participate realistically in meal preparation (eg setting tables), serving and cleaning up in dining rooms and kitchens. However, staff are available to assist as required.
B) Personal Care Services
While not intended to compromise the independence of residents we provide individualised care based on the needs of each resident, which if required may include:-
Providing assistance with bathing, showering and personal hygiene
Organising, supervising and administering prescribed medications
Providing assistance with toileting and use of incontinence aids
Providing assistance with dressing and/or undressing and organising clothing
Providing emotional support
Providing assistance with mobility and transfer in and out of bed or a chair
Providing meal assistance, such as cutting food
Providing special diets for medical or cultural reasons
Providing assistance with tasks such as fitting hearing aids, reading, making telephone calls or writing letters.
Staff will assist with heavy linen and personal laundry as required
Residents will be encouraged to enjoy social activities, both at home and in the community.
The activities provided will include a broad range of leisure pursuits
A staff member will be on call 24 hours a day to respond to any emergency
Housekeeping for residents who require help with cleaning their units and other services such as bed making
C) Temporary Incapacity
Staff will be available to offer special services to residents who are temporarily incapacitated through short-term illness. These may include delivery of meals to the person's unit and more frequent visits by staff.
NOTE However, if this short period should extend for any substantial time, or the residents needs are assessed as being more appropriate for nursing home care, alternative arrangements will need to be made. In such a situation, staff would offer assistance to relatives/friends in seeking nursing home accommodation, but the ultimate responsibility for these arrangements would be with the resident and their family.
D) Vital Call
Emergency Call system has been installed with staff available to respond 24 hours a day. Each unit has a fixed alert button in the ensuite of the bathroom and each resident is provided with a mobile alert button on a pendant.
