Costs of Living at the Hostel
There are two types of costs: -
1 Entry Premium (refundable), and;
2 Weekly service Fee
Both of these are determined in accordance with Commonwealth Government Guidelines and are means tested. Therefore, residents who are in a financial position to pay an entry premium (ie to "Purchase" a license on a unit), are not required to pay more than an amount that leaves them with assets less than 2.5 times the annual maximum rate of the single pension. This minimum asset level is presently set at $20,000.00, and so prospective residents who have assets of $20,000.00 or less, pay no entry premium for the accommodation.
All residents are charged a weekly service fee, with the minimum amount payable being 85% of the full aged pension plus rent assistance (see leaflet on Weekly Service Fees for further details).
Are there any other costs?
Additional costs include any stamp duty and legal costs on the residential license agreement, and items of a personal nature, e.g. purchase of clothes, furnishings for your unit, insurance of your personal property, personal food items, etc. Residents are also responsible for the cost of connecting a telephone in their unit, if desired and associated ongoing costs.
