Background History

The Greek Community Hostel for the Aged is a venture of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales with additional funding provided through the State and Commonwealth governments.

The campaign for the Greek Community Hostel for the Aged began in 1987, soon after in 1988 land was purchased in the residential area of Earlwood which was to be the site of the hostel.

To assist with the effort and successful completion of the hostel, the Greek Orthodox Community established for fund raising purposes a separate sub-Committee.

Greek brotherhood organisations and the Greek Community at large responded to appeals and fund raising events made by the hostel's sub-Committee. Their overall generosity and willingness to donate far exceeded our expectations.

This enabled construction to begin in 1991, and it was completed in early 1992.

With thanks to many volunteers, the Greek community and Greek brotherhood organisations, the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales is able to provide accommodation for the elderly Greek of our community.
