Services include:
¨ Referral to health and welfare services
¨ Support in using these services where necessary
¨ Support to victims of Domestic Violence including access to legal advice, access to safe accommodation and income
security
¨ Assistance with Housing Applications and appeals
¨ Assistance with Income Security Applications (Centrelink) and
appeals
¨ Access to Government and non– government organisations
¨ Advocacy for clients with mental health issues including access to accommodation, health and legal
services
¨ Community awareness of issues surrounding Drug & Alcohol addictions and those affecting the Greek
community
¨ Support to Greek problem gamblers in the form of counselling
¨ Advocacy & lobbying of Greek community needs
¨ Family Therapy with trained Psychotherapist
¨ Financial service every Thursday between 1.00 – 2.30pm. (By appointment only) Financial Advisor assists people with financial problems such as Social
Security and Superannuation
¨ The Department also provides educational programmes and special speakers on a variety of
topics
COUNSELLING AND INFORMATION SERVICE
Our counselling and information service deals with inter-generational conflict, eating disorders, sexuality, crisis intervention, gambling, domestic violence, bereavement, depression, sexual assault, stress reduction, referrals and general health education. We also offer limited long, medium and short term counselling for general and drug and alcohol related issues.
SESSIONAL SERVICE
Social Worker is available every Monday afternoon at Botany Migrant Resource Centre at 3 General Bridges Cres, Daceyville. Also, Social Worker is available every Wednesday morning at Inner West Migrant Resource Centre at Level 3, 6-8 Holden St Ashfield.
GROUPS
The Welfare Department targets groups in respect to their needs and locality. Two groups have been established:
Ashfield - This group for women operates every Wednesday from 10.30am – 12.00pm at the Inner West Migrant Resource Centre including a gentle exercise class facilitated by a professional instructor. Speakers on various topics and day trips organized.
Lakemba – Between 12.00 and 2.00pm every Thursday people can attend to hear speakers on various topics, eat lunch at a reasonable cost, listen to Greek music and dance. It’s a great place to meet new people and spend time with friends. It is also a good opportunity to be informed about the up-coming day trips and other important events and information.
