Hostel Info

The Greek Community Home for the Aged was opened in 1992, by The Greek Orthodox Community of NSW.  The Greek Community Home for the Aged is a not for profit, fully accredited, ageing in place home located in Earlwood, NSW.  Our Home is committed to providing quality of care for the present and future residents of the Greek community in accordance with the standards and principles of the Aged Care Act.

The philosophy of the Greek Community Home for the Aged is based on the principles of love, respect and caring in the provision of a home-like environment for our elderly Greek residents.  We aim to be sensitive to the specific cultural, linguistic and religious traditions of our residents, as well as recognising their individual needs.  We aspire to meet each resident’s daily care needs, and carefully formulate individual and unique plans of care for each resident.    We believe that all care given should promote independence and dignity of the individual.  We seek to ensure that language is no barrier, by employing, wherever possible, bilingual staff.

The home has 48 private and comfortable sized rooms with spacious and safe bathrooms in each room.    Each room is sun drenched with a beautiful outlook over gardens and parklands.   We highly encourage each resident to personalise their room with their favourite personal items and furnishings.  Each room has a built- in wall unit providing shelving for personal items, photos, room for a small fridge, and TV.  Each room has been fitted with antennas for access to The Greek TV channel.  Each room has an electric hospital grade bed, with soft furnishing.  The home is over 2 levels with private seating areas, reading lounges, and family areas.    The home has 2 dining rooms, a large activities area in which we have weekly Greek entertainment.  The home has a chapel in which in-house church services occur monthly.   We also have a large lounge in which Greek Movies are often viewed.

The home has a commercial kitchen, in which all meals are freshly prepared on site daily, by Greek chiefs.   Our menu consists of traditional Greek cuisine, which have been approved by our dietician and meets the standards for aged care.  Our residents have a choice at each meal of two different dishes.  Family and resident visitors are encouraged to join their loved one for meals.  Laundry is completed on site daily and delivered to the resident’s rooms daily.
The home is well staffed with qualified and experienced staff.  We have 24 hour Registered Nurse coverage, and all our care team all hold certificates in aged care.  We strive to facilitate the continuing education process for our staff, in order to maintain the highest standards.

Residents are always entertained with activities conducted 7 days a week.  Two Greek lifestyle and leisure arrange cultural specific activities and outings weekly.  Several Greek organisations and community groups frequent the home to visit and interact with the residents.  The home employs Greek physiotherapists and physio aids which provide therapy 5 times a week.  We have a Greek hairdresser who attends the facility once per fortnight and allied health services such as podiatrist, dietician and speech pathologist in which all have a Greek background and language skills.
