Biography
His Grace Bishop Christophoros of Kerasounta (born Nikolaos Krikelis) was born in Geelong, Victoria, on 27 March 1981. He was raised in the Orthodox Christian faith by his father, Protopresbyter Fr Jordan Krikelis, and his mother, Presvytera Polyxeni.
His Grace initially pursued studies in business and education. In 1999, he completed Certificates III and IV in Business Studies – Accounting at Victoria University, and in 2008 he received a Bachelor of Education, subsequently working in Catholic education for ten years, primarily in early childhood learning and development.
In 2015, he completed a Graduate Certificate in Catholic Studies at Australian Catholic University. Following his calling to ecclesiastical service, he continued his theological studies at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College in Sydney, graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Theology, majoring in Pastoral Theology and minoring in Biblical Studies.
On 30 August 2019, he was tonsured a Rassophoros Monk at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Redfern, Sydney, by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. On 24 October 2019, he was ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence at the Church of Our Lady “Axion Estin” in Northcote, Melbourne. Later that year, on 4 December, he was appointed Director of the Archbishop’s Personal Office.
On 29 June 2020, he was ordained to the Priesthood and elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. On 23 July 2020, he was appointed Dean of the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney.
On 1 December 2021, he officially assumed the duties of Chancellor (Protosyncellus) of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, and on 9 May 2022, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios conferred upon him the rank of Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne.
On 29 August 2025, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, convening under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, unanimously elected him Assistant Bishop to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, bestowing upon him the episcopal title Bishop of Kerasounta.
His Grace continues to serve the Holy Archdiocese of Australia as Chancellor (Protosyncellus) and Vicar of the Immediate Archdiocesan District, contributing to the pastoral, spiritual and administrative life of the Orthodox Church in Australia.
